“Curlew Cottage was a delight, really comfy bed, well furnished, very well presented, warm, ideally located for many RSPB and Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserves.”

Birding was the purpose of our visit. The village had everything you needed too. Communication was excellent. The information about the cottage was accurate on the Sykes site. I would reiterate that the stairs are very steep, the bathroom is downstairs so worth considering if you need to negotiate them when half asleep at night. There are some areas where you need to duck if tall but these are clearly identified. My oversight when booking, there isn’t a washing machine. The parking was a bit ...

The parking was a bit hit and miss. It was roadside parking, which is stated in the information, but there was the odd occasion when we had to park a few hundred yards away in side streets. The only kitchen equipment I missed was a measuring jug and some kitchen scissors. The neighbours I met were very friendly. The cottage is very well thought out and is clearly loved by its owners. We don’t eat out but there did appear to be some really lovely places to eat nearby. I would definitely stay there again. Thank you for a lovely holiday home!

About the location

SNETTISHAM

Heacham 3 miles; Royal Sandringham 4 miles; Hunstanton 5 miles.

Snettisham is a traditional Norfolk village, with many of its houses built from the local iron-rich carr stone, which has an attractive golden-brown colouring. Due to this, the buildings are known locally as “gingerbread houses”. Village amenities include general stores, a Post Office, 2 inns, a bistro and a regular bus service to the bustling, family-friendly seaside resort of Hunstanton and historic King’s Lynn. The church of St Mary sits alone on top of the hill and is certainly worthy of a look inside at the exquisitely decorated tracery flowers on the west window. There is an RSPB bird sanctuary close to the beach, which is three miles away, and the ancient Peddars Way public footpath runs near to the village. Park Farm is on the edge of the village, and is a working farm with year-round activities for all the family, including a 45-minute “deer safari” and the chance to feed some of the animals. The Royal Estate of Sandringham, whose impressive house, gardens and church are open to the public, is nearby, as are the plant farm, tea rooms and gift shop at Norfolk Lavender, England's premier lavender farm.
