The issue was with the cottage which was supposed to be 5 stars. Although much was right, what dominated our long weekend was a broken toilet with absolutely no interest nor response from the owners, who live a stone throw away. I did not expect to have to try and flush a toilet with a pan of water every time, and the cistern made a continual noise of rushing water, and leaked over the bathroom floor: I sent videos etc too. The owners had sorted out a broken fridge the day we arrived and had a small worktop fridge available, which was helpful but again, not what was expected. Also other maintenance issues, blown bulbs etc. this was our first Sykes booking, and I will not be making another based upon this experience. Very disappointing start to the year and I would like a refund please.

We are sorry to hear that you had a problem with the toilet. The cottage is always thoroughly checked prior to arrival and everything, apart from the fridge, was in good working order. We dealt with the fridge issue by purchasing an alternative new small fridge and advised you before your arrival by text, which you responded positively to by text.
Your "blown bulbs" issue simply required the wall plug to be switched on and there were no other maintenance issues identified.
If we had been made aware (eg. by a knock on the door or a text) of the toilet issue we would immediately have arranged for our emergency plumber to attend. We are always available on site to help and are very rarely required.
This emergency late booking should not have been accepted by Sykes as one of the guests was a child, and we are adult only, as clearly shown in the listing.
Based on our plumber's advice we are claiming the repair cost from the client housekeeping deposit and consequently cannot offer any refund in such unjustified circumstances. Property Owner
