Shorthorn Barn

Upon approval the property, was lovely, however it's a working farm,which was nt listed so noisy veichles from 6.

30 weekdays and diggers dropping soil off at that time in a morning, and moving top soil around till 7pm right outside our barn,so noisy,views nice ,however the overall cleanliness of the place is shocking, I took pictures on arrival as not to be blamed for it,thefolderwith info in isold and shabby,every cupboard door dirty cutlery draw dirty, the door as walked in hand prints all over it from people, every touch screen mirror finger prints on it,every bin was filthy on the foot press and rusty,the kettle was mnging and dirty,crusty limescale, fridge handle on the smeg was caked in stuff,every toilet brown stains at the back,and under rime wee stained , the sinks were stained,the oven is absolutely filthy,didn't use it,the hob had to be washed before use otherwise we couldn't eat there ,the microwave was dirty at the back and the top inside,the bins were dirty on arrival, the kitchen sink was dirty and stained,all the kitchen cupboards stained as it shows up in the sun in the day,the under counter fridge froze milk up straight away,and door doesn't shut properly you have to close at the bottom, all the trays with soap on in bathrooms are dirty,when pick up soap ,the trays not cleaned and all splashed from previous hand washing, the folder on arrival clearly states they are proud of cleaning, and highly maintenance, but I won't recommend anyone to go now seen it,and to pay £1,300 for a week I expect a clean home there are other issues but the cleanliness is a massive factor for me,as I cleaner myself I pride myself in my work, and be embarrassed to let my home get that dirty. I won't ever go back nor recommend, infact the people saw it before we went were gonna book next year have now gone elsewhere as they too saw my photos and think it's not clean ,and far to much money for them standards,

What a lovely 10 night stay at Shorthorn Barn.

We have stayed at other accommodations over the years but Shorthorn Barn has to be the best one so far.Highly recommend.

Shorthorn Barn exceeded our expectations and had the "wow factor" when we arrived.

All rooms are ensuite and the central living area was room enough for all 10 of our family to relax and play. Kitchen was well equipped which made catering for the family easy too. The enclosed outdoor space was a bonus as well the animals close by which where fun for the children and adults alike. The host was friendly and approachable too.

Shorthorn Barn is a lovely place to stay.

We had 2 families staying for the week and loved it. It's in a great location very central to everywhere we planned to go over our holiday. The barn is beautiful. There's a lovely little walk over a couple of streams and rivers on the property. The owner was friendly and made sure we knew she would be available and had her contact details if we needed anything. We cooked for ourselves most days and found the kitchen to be very well equipped. On most holidays we don't usually spend much time at our accommodation but Shorthorn barn felt so comfortable and homely that we had days we just didn't want to leave. There's also something very peaceful about waking up to the sound of the livestock each morning. I would recommend a stay here to anybody looking for a relaxing holiday without being stuck out in the middle of nowhere. Very sad to leave when our time was up. Thank you so much for such an amazing stay.

Our group of 7 comprising 3 young grandchildren, their parents and we grandparents had been looking forward to a relaxing, carefree family holiday.

We had been persuaded by florid descriptions of the property and many accompanying images which showed several farm animals including alpacas close to the property. This, coupled with the enclosed garden and outdoor amenities, had seemingly made the property an ideal location for all of us, especially our grandchildren, to enjoy during our 7 night stay. This illusion was immediately shattered on our late afternoon arrival. Construction work to create a meadow and knock down old buildings was taking place using heavy machinery directly opposite the property. This not only created a lot of noise but worse still were the dust clouds blowing in our direction. In fact, one of our grandchildren asked if we were staying on a building site. We spoke to both owners at different times about this to express our dismay particularly as we had no forewarning about this. Whilst very apologetic, the simple fact was that the work had gone on for some time and could not be stopped entirely during our stay. Promises were made to try to ameliorate the situation but in reality, work continued throughout our stay apart from Sunday. This was an issue because we had to endure this on a number of days when we did not go out at all. All of this plus no farm animals in sight meant the reality was very different to what had been depicted in the property description when we booked. The dust was a constant menace. It covered our cars and inevitably seeped into the property affecting the overall cleanliness especially floors and work surfaces which we had to pay constant attention to because of the grandchildren. Such a shame because the property is well appointed overall. The combination of dust and noise also meant that we did not make the fullest use of the advertised outdoor amenities. So, we limited the time spent by our 3 young grandchildren in the garden; washed and hung out clothes when work was not taking place; opted not to use the BBQ. We had paid a peak season price significantly higher than at other times without any construction work to stay in the same property with exactly the same facilities. To warrant this price mark up and together with the way the property is marketed as high end, attention to detail should be automatic. Sadly, there were shortcomings. Some examples indoors were a dishwasher left loaded with dirty dishes from the previous occupants; chipped crockery; a scruffy Welcome folder with the name of another property and various crossings out; dog hairs. Outdoor examples were cigarette butts and a pet's ball that should have been removed. For all the above reasons, I have had to downgrade the review rating as it should always be about the overall holiday experience not just about the property itself. It is a great pity as the elements of an enjoyable holiday are there if the impressions promised in the property description which still remain on the website had been kept.

We had a lovely 2-night stay at Shorthorn Barn.

The barn itself was beautiful, homely and very well equipped, with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location was also great and made it a lovely base for our break. Communication with the owner was really good throughout, and we were very kindly allowed early access, which we really appreciated. The only downside to our stay was the building work taking place directly outside the barn. On one of the days, work started at around 7.45am and continued until approximately 4pm. Unfortunately, this meant that we didn’t get quite the relaxing daytime break we had hoped for, particularly as we hadn’t been made aware of the work before arriving. The owner did apologise when we saw them on the first evening, which we appreciated, but I do feel that guests should be made aware of any significant building work beforehand. Aside from this, we really enjoyed our stay. The accommodation itself was fantastic and we would definitely consider returning again.

Shorthorn Barn was perfect for our group of 4 couples.

Having 4 en suite bedrooms meant we all had our own space. The common area was spacious and had plenty of seating for everyone. There was plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. They also left toilet rolls, kitchen roll, washing up liquid and some dishwasher tabs as well as some tea and coffee which meant we didn't have to dash straight off to the shops (there is a big Lidl less than a mile away) The garden is enclosed so perfect for our dog. If the weather had been nicer we would have spent more time outside on the covered seating area. A really nice stay a short drive away from the Broads.

Just returned from a fantastic stay at Shorthorn Barn.

Great to all have our own space and bathrooms as well as a lovely enclosed outdoor space for the kids and dog to play in and to enjoy a BBQ. Agree that it could do with some more kitchen accessories like oven gloves, more tea towels and some smaller sharp knives. However, this is minor and did not affect our holiday. Great base for exploring Norfolk and we had some lovely days out at Holkham, Dad’s Army Museum, Lynford Arboretum, a boat trip on the broads, Wroxham, Happisburgh, Great Yarmouth and the Norwich football stadium. Also lovely of the owners to allow us to meet their sheep, lambs and alpacas. We are all very keen to return next year. Thank you!

We had a great time at the barn.

It was spacious inside and out. Living area is brilliant for socialising. Bedrooms were all ensuite. Outside had better seating and shade than in the phoes and the BBQ was was big enough to cook for everyone. One of the best places we've stayed.

Beautiful property, clean and well maintained.

What a treat to have a bathroom each. The only suggestion we would make it to perhaps have a bit more equipment in the kitchen - e.g. a drainer for drying hand washed dishes/pots, scissors (I can't remember everything sorry!), Also there were a couple of dirty baking trays. Disappointed with the cleanliness of the property it is advertised as dog friendly but didnt expect white dog hair all over the furniture which we had to vacuum off.

The oven was clean but the oven trays need replacing a couple are unusable. Toilet seats had brown urine stains underneath and need replacing. Showers need a deep clean especially the plug holes.and mouldy silicone needs sorting .The church pew in living room not comfortable to sit on so dont understand why it's there.This could be a fantastic holiday cottage beds were comfortable lovely quiet garden and loads of hot water just let down by poor maintenance and cleaning .

Third visit for our family to Shorthorn Barn — and definitely not our last!

More visits to come. The facilities are amazing and everything you could possibly need is there for you. The property has 4 lovely bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, which worked perfectly for our family. The layout is ideal for families or groups of friends, with plenty of space to relax together. Everything was spotlessly clean and very well maintained. We also loved the lovely garden area, perfect for sitting out and enjoying the surroundings. Great local amenities nearby too, making it an excellent base for a relaxing break. Highly recommend!

This place is perfect!

The location is stunning on the farm, the space is so socialble for a group trip, and everyone having their own en suite is a big bonus. The beds are comfy with crisp & clean bedding, the kitchen is well equipped (pans, lots of cutlery and utensils, and even nice bowls for serving) and the dining and living spaces are perfect for relaxing evenings. I would highly recommend this place and hope to return.

This is a superb barn conversion with great access to your private garden.

Our 3rd visit and this place just suits our family needs. We feel very at home here. A couple of things needed a bit of maintenance, left a note of these, and when done , the property will be back to it's immaculate condition providing a superb place to holiday.

We had a very enjoyable weekend.

We booked for a family get together and travelled from as far a field as Edinburgh, Newcastle Carlisle, Warrington, Somerset and London. There were three generations of mums, daughters, sisters, granddaughters, cousins, and aunts from our family and the accommodation was absolutely perfect for our stay. The owner was super responsive and very attentive. The accommodation was as described and very comfortable. We would have no hesitation in recommending and hope to be back later in the year!

A beautiful barn which accommodated our family for an amazing Christmas- so nice to all be together!

Enjoyed the walk by the river, my grandchildren loved seeing all the animals especially the alpacas! The barn is very spacious as are the bedrooms! The Christmas tree, the fairy lights and wood burner made it all magical!

This is an amazing place that exceeds expectations.

From the quality of the facilities and furnishings to the location and the fantastic layout. Plenty of room for 10 people/4 family groups and our dog all very comfortable. We cooked dinner and breakfast and found everything we needed.

Perfect Holiday Cottage in Norfolk – Highly Recommended!

We had the most wonderful week staying at this lovely cottage in Attlebridge with my wife, kids, and our dog. The cottage itself was outstanding – very spacious, spotlessly clean, and everything inside felt brand new. The beds were super comfy, and we all slept really well every night. The location was amazing – tucked away in beautiful countryside but still close enough to Norwich, the Norfolk Broads, and the coast for lots of days out. The garden was a real highlight, with a shaded seating area where we could relax with a drink and a good book, and a BBQ that we used almost every evening – perfect for family dinners after our day trips. During our stay we enjoyed some fantastic trips: • A sunny day at Cromer Beach, where the kids loved playing on the sand. • A fun-filled visit to Great Yarmouth, with its classic seaside atmosphere and long sandy beach. • A peaceful day on the Norfolk Broads, enjoying the stunning waterways and countryside. • A trip into Norwich, exploring the cathedral, historic streets, and charming shops and cafés. After each adventure, it was a joy to come back to such a comfortable and welcoming cottage. We couldn’t have asked for a better base for our Norfolk holiday. I’d highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a family-friendly, relaxing break in Norfolk. We’ll definitely be back! Just a couple of extra points though, it would be useful if the description stated there were hairdryers in the cottage as I didn’t see this and I took my own. And the owners are super attentive. I asked if there were any pegs in the cottage, and within the hour they had been and bought some for us to use.

A great property in a good location for visiting North Norfolk.

Much needed shade provided in garden. Owners welcoming and friendly. Had a really enjoyable stay-suited the needs of all the family. Cleanliness of some appliances needs addressing but we didn’t use them this time so not an issue. Would definitely return.

The property was large and spacious.

The bedrooms were all lovely and it was nice to each have its own en-suite. It was very well equipped and had everything we needed. Loved the outside seating area.

Always very clean and comfortable and spacious. The weather was on our side this year, so we were able to enjoy the outside seating and barbecue - perfect!

Shorthorn Barn is a really super property - a converted barn to a high spec.

It is situated on a family run farm with cows, sheep and alpacas and is in lovely surroundings. Bridgette (owner) and her family are so helpful if you need anything they are on hand or phone call away. We thoroughly enjoyed our family stay for a special 80th Birthday. It is situated on the outskirts of town but amenities and shops just a few mins drive away, plus many other wonderful places to visit, see and do for all ages. Especially the Steam Train from Holt to Sheringham is a must! The garden, BBQ and furniture is great, just needs a bit of shade, when it’s hot, plus our dog loved the garden!

We could not fault the Accomadation and location, as a family of 10 we loved the space and freedom of the place.

The garden was safe for the children and the dog . All in all a wonderful stay and the feeding of the lambs and alpacas was a bonus .

Very peaceful, beautifully furnished and the perfect set up for a group gathering, amazing!

The barn is beautiful and well equipped.

A mirror in one of the bedrooms is missing but other than that perfect ! Will revisit.

Everything was fine, beds comfortable, clean and tidy.

The wood burner was very cosy. However the two large sofas were missing their back cushions and cushions being used were not substantial enough and we had to use the pillows off the beds. The sofas are quite deep. We did get 2 fireside chairs from the bedroom but there were only 2.

A wonderful place to stay with very welcoming hosts.

Clean, comfortable and stylishly furnished. 4 generations stayed over Christmas with plenty of room for everyone. Super comfy beds with lovely dark rooms so easy to sleep. Highly recommend.

Lovely property, everything very clean.

Facilities and area lovely. Safe environment for 20 month grandson and dog very secure. Heating very warm, logs for fire, linen, crockery, plenty of everything. Highly recommend

Amazing accommodation, 6 adults 2 young children, spacious lounge/dining/kitchen area where we could all be together and children had plenty of room.

Great facilities and owners have thought of everything you would need! Bedrooms all a good size with en suite. Very clean inside and out. Have rebooked already!

A fantastic week in a lovely barn conversion.

Three generations and we all had a great time. Beautiful cosy home. Our granddaughters loved it, especially the garden, and the animals. Would definitely recommend and will probably visit again.

We had a lovely holiday, excellent facilities.

We had a wonderful stay, it is perfectly placed to get to the coast, Cromer, Sheringham, Yarmouth, and Sea Palling, and Mundersley are all within reach.

We also had a trip to Sheringham and Holt on the steam train. We had several BBQ’s and Curry and Chinese deliver, but watch out, they only accept cash payments. We would like to return, as there are still places to go and experiences not done in this visit. Chris was exceptional as a host, and told us about several sites, and about his farm and the names given to the Alpacas, which our youngsters loved. Each bedroom has an on suite shower room, and brilliant showers at that, the beds were very comfortable, and we could all be showering at the same time, without anyone losing any pressure. The weather was exceptional and made for a superb holiday, the garden is totally enclosed, and extremely safe for toddlers, we had one of 22 months, and he had a great time, we can’t praise the owners enough.

We’ve made some wonderful memories. We had the most amazing stay at Shorthorn Barn. The Barn was beautiful and clean throughout. Plenty of fridge and freezer space. The owners and all the other staff on site were really friendly and helpful and were available if we needed anything during our stay. Absolutely amazing place!

Could do with a slightly bigger fridge as the property caters for 10, we were inundated with flys so maybe some fly screens for the doors.

Our first time here so I looked at the previous reviews.

Things mentioned no soap in dispensers, lack of utensils, and a wall that has been built, that’s not on the photos. I took said items with us, but did not need any of it because it was all provided. The wall that has been built was ideal as we had a three year old with us and didn’t have to worry about her escaping and it gave us more privacy. The garden was decent enough for her to run around and we could all be out there too. There were seven of us, including little one. The property was everything as described and we enjoyed our time here. Location was perfect, for shopping, coast, Norwich and we had food delivered as well. Would recommend this property to friends and family. We had three cars and there was plenty of room to park.

This place was stunning !

! Mixture of modern and old fashioned decor. It has everything you need in the property from silverware to cleaning products so you really don’t need to bring anything. Clean, tidy and comfortable

Lovely location for exploring Norfolk .

Large barn, good ensuite showers. Double bed is very small not really for 2 adults. Fridge is too small for catering for large groups. A separate drink fridge would be welcome. There is not enough outdoor seating for everyone, luckily we had some camping chairs. Need some sort of sun shade outdoor, the umbrella provided was useless. Owners friendly. The pictures lead you to assume you look out on fields but it is a small enclosed garden. There are sheep and alpaca in the next field and we were lucky enough to see the little owls and other bird species. They are in the process of converting more barns so don't know how much privacy that will provide. These are a few suggestions as we had a great time. 4 adults holidaying

Small maintenance issue was dealt with swiftly and to our satisfaction. Hope to return next year and would wholeheartedly recommend.

We had a marvellous stay, it’s a wonderful place with farm animals which made it extra special for us.

The owners were very friendly and helpful and they sorted everything out that we needed. The accommodation in its beautiful surroundings was one of the best we have ever stayed at. We can’t wait to re visit.

This Barn Conversion is my vision of where I would like to live, and so absolutely suited to my holiday needs and family of 9 of us.

4 lovely bedrooms and each with their own bathroom was what we needed. The big kitchen lounge area was great for us all to be together. The enclosed garden with big glass doors open to the outside meant the children could safely play outside. A BBQ was had. The owners are friendly and so helpful.

We loved it

We really enjoyed our stay at this gorgeous converted barn, for six of us celebrating our 40th birthdays.

It felt cosy and inviting from the moment we walked in. We had everything we needed and the beds were so comfortable! We liked that each room had an ensuite, and the shower was perfect and modern. We got a taxi into the town to have a meal out to celebrate our birthdays and it wasn't far to go. It was a nice surprise that the farm animals were in their pens right next to the barn and so we got to see the sheep and chickens and went for a nice walk too. We loved our stay here, it was calm and blissful and we would definitely be happy to stay again and would recommend.

This was a lovely property when having family come to Norwich to visit for my birthday.

The property itself is lovely and in a great location for Norwich. It's very close to shops and pubs nearby in Fakenham. The facilities could have been better in terms of what I would consider the basics for a self catering property. We only had 3 rolls of toilet roll for a 4 bed property that we booked for a week for 9 people. Although there is a dishwasher, there was no dish towels or clothes for cleaning down surfaces, drying dishes or washing a few individual items that is too little to run a dishwasher for. The bins didn't have liners in when we arrived and were very dirty. This wasn't great when we were asked to take the rubbish out before checking out. The microwave was also very dirty and needed to be cleaned before we used it as there was lots of food splattered on the inside. There was also no shower gel and not all of the hand soap dispensers had soap in them. Overall we had a great experience and would recommend this property, but these small details are things that could be improved to make that slight difference and show more attention to detail!

Fantastic holiday rental.

Very clean and tidy and perfect for our weekend break. There was 9 of us and we loved the fact we could all sit together to eat and then to relax of an evening and then all had our own rooms with bathrooms which was great. We had a couple of questions to which we asked the owners and they was really quick to reply and help. Just a couple of things i would say to make the rental even better and that would be to have some more utensils for cooking, tongs and a flat spatula for eggs would be great. Also we had no soap in the bathrooms but there are dispensers so not sure if they are for us to fill or to be filled. However none of this impacted our stay at all. We had a fantastic time and would 100% return and recommend to others! Thank you.

Our family of 7 plus dog had the best week at Barn Conversion.

Its spacious bedrooms provided down time if needed and the large communal area was perfect for family meals, games nights or film watching on the large tv. The kitchen is well equipped for large scale meals. Situated directly on a footpath for great dog walking. Lidl is a 5 min drive away and Tescos a little further. It is necessary to drive to all the shops. Norwich is 8 miles and the choice of beautiful beaches around 20 miles away. We hired a boat at Wroxham to soak up the best part of Norfolk, the Broads. There’s so much to do, we will definitely be back to stay here. Thank you Chris and Bridget, you’ve created the perfect family holiday accommodation!

Absolutely perfect holiday.

Accommodation beautiful, clean, spacious. Property owners so friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend and will be booking a week with them next year.

Fantastic property with lots of space for 6 adults and 4 children.

Safe enclosed space for the kids to run around and proper comfortable outdoor seating. The garden gets the sun all day which is amazing especially for an early morning bit of peace (an umbrella would be a great addition). Having an en-suite for every room was a joy and they were all clean with plenty of hot water even if people were showering at the same time (there’s no bath available though). Well equipped kitchen with essential dishwasher. Also a barbecue available in the garden. It was around 40 mins to the sea and we spent time at Sea Palling, Mundesley, Holkham Beach and saw seals swimming at Horsey Gap. We also visited Langham Glass, Norfolk Tank Museum, played foot-golf at the local hotel and went to the Aylesham Show. It was our first time in Norfolk and we’ll definitely be back.

The conversion has been done tastefully and we were very comfortable. We met the owner who is friendly, helpful and considerate. We made use of the games and enjoyed the nice garden. Lovely surroundings and very quiet. Thank you!

Lovely barn conversion, a bit too remote for us, nothing around us not even good dog walks.

When the other barns are completed it ( a project in hand) it might be worth thinking about an area for a pool and table tennis table for something to do as it’s so remote especially for teenagers. A couple of tips for things required in the kitchen, cooking tongs, pizza wheel, kitchen roll holder and we left a fly swot as there are so many flies, obviously because you are on a working farm, but an electric wall mounted fly zapper would be a great idea. It could have been cleaner, fridge and freezer were in need of a clean out, I don’t like showering with other peoples hairs( just a pet hate) and a hoover under the sofas would be good as we had to move them about so my elderly father could see the tv from the only armchair as the sofas are not very comfortable, and it was not clean under the sofas. Also an Alexa would be great for news and music, also a washing line and I would think a sun shade to be able to sit outside on the very nice garden furniture when it’s sunny. The mauve flower borders are lovely !! All in all we had a lovely stay despite the rain and these are not to be seen as criticisms as it’s a lovely barn and the lay out is very well thought of just tweeks the owners might like to take on board, thank you for a lovely stay
