“The Forge House has all the expected facilities of a modernised house and with the benefit of a totally enclosed garden so our whippet was entirely safe by herself outside.”

It was a warm, clean and comfortable house with interesting features keeping us guessing as to how it all worked in the past. The food and wine shop next door was a bonus as well.

“The cottage was located superbly for walking, birdwatching and visiting Holt, Wells, plus many other places including National Trust Properties.”

Cley is a pretty unspoilt village with a superb food shop, a Smokehouse, two pubs, bookshop, gallery and pottery. The cottage was in need of renovation, the curtain rail in the twin room was falling off the wall, the single room blind had a cup hook which repeatedly fell out off it's hole and there was no maintenance book or instructions for the heating. However, having a tiled floor, it was perfect for a wet dog! The walled garden would be amazing in summer as it is totally secluded and sheltered but it is in dire need of garden rescue! However, this cottage is perfect for visitors and dogs who wish to explore this peaceful and beautiful part of north Norfolk. I would be very happy to use this cottage again.

“Loved the quirky accommodation but felt it needed some tlc.”

Generally equipment & facilities were usable but had seen better days. The garden was a peaceful retreat but again needed some tlc. The local area was amazing & the walks were fantastic for us & the dog.

“Very disappointed in the property.”

It was tired and dirty. In one of the bedrooms the curtain pole had come down. They'd come along and filled the holes but not bothered to replace it, just stuffed it under a bed, so we had to tuck a bedsheet into the empty frame for the whole fortnight to help darken the room for my 5 year old to get to sleep. The kitchen cupboards are stuffed full of random bric a brac, multiple toast racks, broken glassware - one wine glass had actually been put back with its base snapped off - but missing helpful items like a wooden spoon! The paintwork is damp and peeling off in the bathroom, and the 'garden' is pretty uncomfortable to spend time in. Overall, I could put up with some tired decor, and some holiday home ornaments that aren't to our taste, but the lack of care around the curtain pole, and the property being actually dirty was really disappointing.

“Lovely quirky cottage with a nicely refurbished bathroom however the decor throughout is a little tired and the outside space is in need of a lot of work to make it safe and inviting.”

Fortunately the weather was good during our stay but rain would turn much of the area into mud. Many uneven surfaces and no outside lighting. Bath requires a non slip mat.

Brimming with over 200 years of character and charm, Forge House is a delightful, three-bedroom cottage, located in the Norfolk village of Cley Next The Sea.

Well-positioned within the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Forge House has been sympathetically-restored, retaining many original features, whilst ideally set for outdoor enthusiasts and keen birdwatchers.

Park up to the roadside and head indoors to be met by the well-equipped, traditional kitchen, housing all the essentials, including a washing machine and dishwasher.

Continuing through, find the living/dining room with plush armchairs to sink into, whilst the dining table is made for family meals with delightful beams overhead; if the weather allows, the rear garden offers a lovely area to dine alfresco whilst your furry companion safely roams.

As the night unfolds, head upstairs to relax in the sitting room, oozing a homely feel, or locate the snug for a reading nook, for some peace and quiet from the rest of the home.

Three bedrooms are on offer, a king-size, a twin, and a single, all serviced by a spacious bathroom, where you can prepare for your coming days.

The village itself is dotted with independent shops, lovely eateries, and traditional taverns, where you can stock up on the essentials at the Picnic Fayre deli, dine out and enjoy a tipple at The George and Dragon, tour the local book shop, or grab your walking boots and start your adventure across Cley Marshes.

Travelling west, Blakeney National Nature Reserve is also a must-visit for hiking and wildlife spotting, also offering the opportunity to board a seasonal Temple Seal Trip at Blakeney Point, before ending your evening with a delicious meal at The Wiveton Bell.

Beachgoers will enjoy the atmosphere of Cromer Pier and shoreline, with the Amazona Zoo nearby ideal for families, or for a day of history and beautiful architecture, tour the grounds of Felbrigg Hall, Gardens & Estate, with both lakeside and woodland views on offer.
