“Disappointed with several aspects of the chapel.”

Rooms very cluttered, signs all over the place which does not make for the calm space it should be. Nightstands in the big bedroom too small and wobbly, dusty chandelier. There are not 2 bathrooms; there is 1 bathroom and a shower in the big bedroom. The smoke alarm was bleeping on arrival, no interlinking safety system, no torches should the lights go off. Misleading info regarding fire — “bring your own fire” is not clear. It should say “bring your own fuel/firewood.” We thought ...

It should say “bring your own fuel/firewood.” We thought “fire” meant a lighter. Oven and oven tray dirty and greasy, fridge dirty, broken chiller tray, cutlery drawer dirty with crumbs, rusty baking trays in cupboard. Fridge badly positioned — when the kitchen door is opened and someone is standing with the fridge door open, the kitchen door hits the fridge. Dusty lamps above kitchen table. No coasters. Could not find an iron. On the Thursday at 9:40, two gardeners entered the garden even though the gate was closed, and without a “by your leave” started mowing and strimming. There is gravel on the drive, and by strimming with our car on the drive, the gravel could easily have hit our car. We told them we were not leaving until the next day, assuming the gardening was a mistake. They said they always worked the Thursday — their contract. They left when we said it was strange and that someone was still in bed; they agreed it was wrong?? Such a pity as the chapel is an attractive house in a lovely location.

Thank you for you review we are sorry our chapel did not meet yours and our expectations. The chapel has continuously scored well on cleanliness, however we shall bring up your concerns with the housekeeper. Torches are supplied but often seem to disappear, the smoke alarms are electric and battery to provide all round protection. As for the signage whilst that may not be your taste they are evident in the photos, when creating a holiday home we wanted to have something that is fun and appeals to a wide audience. We are sorry you chose the wrong type of accommodation according to your taste, this is an attractive period property, never designed as a home so one would expect a small level of compromise given its outstanding character recognised by your review. The garden is professionally maintained by a professional contractor we shall pass your comments on. The information re firewood is from Sykes not us, due to regulations we don’t supply firewood, equally the iron is within the kitchen cupboard, I would have been able to assist had you reached out. We have ordered new baking trays which were replaced very recently. We have since spoken to the housekeeper who confirms the oven is not dirty but stained, harsh cleaning would of course cause illness by damaging the enamel, again the fridge was cleaned and the trays were fine, these will be checked again as well as the draws which are cleaned each clean which lasts 5 hours each turn around. We are disappointed by your review as these are monitored and differ from our previous guest feedback and experience. Property Owner

About the location

Flitcham

King's Lynn 9.2 miles

Flitcham is a small west Norfolk village situated north east of King's Lynn. The parish is known as Flitcham cum Appleton although the latter now consists of a farm and a few cottages while Appleton church is just a ruin. Flitcham has a Family-run gin distillery which is based in a former barn in the village. The original carved village sign was a gift of King George V in 1912. Nearby is the Houghton Hall, built in the 1720s for Great Britain’s first Prime Minister. Houghton Hall is one of Norfolk’s most beautiful stately homes and remains one of England’s finest Palladian houses. The nearby market town of King's Lynn provides a large choice of amenities. This town is an excellent place to explore, with many historical spots, such as its 12th century port, its 18th century The Walks and local fishing museum True's Yard Fisherfolk Museum. Close to The Wash National Nature Reserve and the Norfolk Coast AONB where you can explore the open countryside with ample opportunities for walking, cycling, even birdwatching and rich with scenery for those budding photographers among you. Also nearby are a number of lovely sandy beaches, where you can look forward to sunbathing on the golden sands, swimming in the shallow waters, or taking the opportunity to learn how to surf!
