“When we first arrived there was a musty smell but tracked it down to the vase of sweet pea flowers.”

Once removed all okay, Very quiet and lovely location, perfect for touring the area. Good TV and WiFi reception and comfortable. Only adverse points were the shower lacked pressure and the central heating digital controls kept changing. More control info on these two issues would help. It also took us several minutes to find the red high level hall switch for the shower. Having said that we had a good holiday break here.

The thermostat in the cottage is a intelligent model that ensures a constant comfortable ambient temperature at all times. “We had a wonderful few days at Moonlight Cottage, a home from home.”

Lovely, quiet and peaceful location, very restful. My husband even saw 2 deer in the garden! We were very central to where we wanted to visit and explore. Lovely pubs on the Broads where you can have a good meal. We visited a few beaches around as well, and traditional Norfolk villages and market places. We were very reluctant to leave, and will return in the future. Thanks to David our host, always on hand.

The location is fantastic for exploring Norfolk. We had some great family days out at Bewilderwood, Cromer, and taking a boat trip on the Norfolk Broads - all within an easy drive away. The cottage was clean and cosy. It was also great that there was a washing machine available. The sofa bed had a rather firm mattress but it was fine for a short stay. The owner, Dave, was responsive and let us know about key collection in good time. He helped us set up the sofa bed and was friendly and helpful. The cookies and flowers in the kitchen when we arrived were also a thoughtful touch. There was a highchair and cot provided for our baby which was lovely and very welcoming. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

“On arrival and first opening of front door we were confronted with a smell.”

Like a unused washing machine / drain/ stale/ foisty smell. Kept windows and door open till evening. But once closed the smell was strong in the living room and bedroom. Stinging nostrils and back of throat. Up at six next morning opened windows and door again. Advised owners in the morning who said there was no smell and were not prepared to do anything. They said take the matter up with sykes. We weren't prepared to stay in those conditions for another night, so holiday was cut short to one night instead of four. Would not put up with a smell like that at home, so why should we on holiday. We were not complaining about the cottage and cleanliness just the unbearable smell.

This cottage is set centrally for easy access to most of the Broads. It is very quiet, clean and well furnished which provided just what we needed. Great holiday.

“We were very disappointed with the cottage.”

It was far from the high standard we usually receive when we book with Sykes. 1. The bathroom was in a poor decorative condition. The radiator was rusty and did not always heat up. The bathroom itself seemed dated and not in good condition. Surfaces had not been cleaned and the shower cubicle had discoloured grout. The toiletry holder in the shower was also rusty. 2. There was obviously a problem with the heating system. When it came on it was very noisy and the radiators did not always heat up. On the last morning we woke up we had no heating or hot water. This was remedied by early afternoon. 3. We used the washing machine, but our clothes came out with black bits on them. On closer inspection we could see that water had collected in the seals and the machine had not been maintained. 4. The outside area had not been prepared for visitors. The outside dryer had algae on it, as did the table for sitting out. The area where the table was situated had not been cleared of moss and weeds. We had a period of good weather before and during our visit so would have liked to have made more use of this. The cottage was spacious for two people but lacked the care and attention to make a comfortable holiday property.

The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The garden has lots of room to play and the tyre swing was a hit with our daughter. Owner was very helpful with local suggestions. As with much of Norfolk mobile signal is patchy and the WiFi is slow/intermittent for anything other than basic browsing so would suggest downloading anything you want prior to arrival or taking some games/DVD’s in case of a rainy day.

“Very comfortable cottage, very private, facing, wih one other cottage, a small grass field, set back from the minor road, about a mile from the small village of Coltishall, and a further 4 miles from Hoveton with Roys ample food hall, pharmacy, department store, toy store, garden centre, and free short, medium and long stay car parks.”

Coltishall has a pleasant green space by the river. Owner welcomed us helpfully, and then left us private unless we would have wanted help.

Spotlessly clean and a comfortable bed. Ideally located just outside a small village. Easy access to lots of lovely places in Norfolk. Holkham hall and parkland was beautiful. We loved the town of Holt and seal spotting at Horsey beach. The host was on hand to sort any problems such as when the internet connection was lost he came immediately and sorted it out. Would definitely visit Norfolk again and stay at Moonlight cottage. Highly recommended.

Birdsong and the occasional rumble of trains on the Bure Valley railway- a 5 minute walk away up a narrow lane -was all we heard. We spent our holiday cycling down traffic free country lanes and walking along the path beside the train. Moonlight cottage is centrally situated for exploring Norfolk although it was too hot for us to do that. We walked to the river Bure and enjoyed pub lunches nearby. Would highly recommend hiring a day boat to see the nearby Broads. The cottage itself was well equipped for a self catering holiday, and spotlessly clean. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.

“The heating system in the cottage was difficult - on the controller, there was a switch that had been labelled on/off.”

It never seemed to do anything, so we just had to rely on the pre-set programme. Fortunately, most of the time there was no problem as the weather wasn't too bad, but if we'd been there at a colder time, it could have been difficult. Having said that, the owner was easily contactable and I'm sure would have helped us out if necessary. The setting was beautiful with local walking and convenient for the Norfolk Broads.

The little extras were nice as we arrived late so no shops open. The furniture in the living room is dated but usable. There is parking which is tight but manageable. We didn't go to any local pubs or shops so we can't comment on them but we did go to Wroxham Barns, Bure Valley Railway and Great Yarmouth which we thoroughly enjoyed with our 6 year old. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, thank you

We also felt the cottage was a home from home and had everything we needed and could want. I have been to rented cottages before where there have been things broken, missing and if you are cooking instead of going out, the kitchen was unsuitable for cooking anything further than beans on toast! Not so with this property, they'd thought of everything and the homely, welcoming touches like milk and tea / coffee were very gratefully received after a long M25 on a Friday night journey! We were very sorry to leave.

Moonlight Cottage is a semi-detached, single-storey barn conversion, situated one mile from the village of Coltishall in Norfolk.

This cottage sleeps two people in one double bedroom, and also has a shower room, a kitchen and a sitting room with dining area and double sofa bed.

Outside there is off road parking for one car and a shared lawned garden with patio, unfenced pond (outside the walled and gated garden) and furniture.

Moonlight Cottage is an ideal retreat for a couple who wish to explore the Broads, Norwich and many other wonderful places in the county.

Common Farm Cottages

Coltishall 1 mile. These delightful semi-detached red brick and flint barn conversion cottages are situated down a narrow lane, surrounded by countryside, just one mile from the Norfolk village of Coltishall. These two welcoming Coltishall cottages are equipped with everything you will need, and they are the perfect base for those wishing to escape to the country for a family holiday or for a romantic break. The large shared garden with patio is an ideal place to enjoy Norfolk’s sunshine, and Coltishall village offers several good pubs serving food, a village shop, a butcher's and petrol station, along with Coltishall Common and Coltishall Staithe which provide a wonderful place to relax whilst watching boats pass on the River Bure. The Bure Valley Railway is just a five minute walk from your Coltishall cottages and the cycle and footpath running along the track provides fantastic scenery for a pleasant walk or bike ride. The superb Norfolk Broads are close by, whilst the city of Norwich is within easy driving distance and offers many places of interest. COLTISHALL

Wroxham 4 miles; Norwich 9 miles.

The pretty Norfolk Broadland village of Coltishall is known locally as the ‘Gateway to the Broads’, where, on Coltishall Common, you can find an array of moored boats sitting along the banks of the River Bure. The banks of the River Bure are the picturesque setting of Coltishall Staithe, a large grassed area enjoying riverside pubs and restaurants, a village store/Post Office and attractive cottages. In summer, both locals and visitors enjoy relaxing picnics, feeding the ducks and playing ball games, while in winter, the local waterfowl enjoy Coltishall Staithe’s riverside tranquillity. On the outskirts of Coltishall is the summertime pick-up stop of the Bure Valley Railway, a narrow gauge steam and diesel service running between the market town of Aylsham and Wroxham, and walkers can enjoy the riverside footpath from Coltishall Lock. The local area offers a wide choice of places to visit from craft barns and beautiful gardens to National Trust properties and Redwings Horse Sanctuary, while river boat trips can also be enjoyed.
