“Our first impression of the cottage was positive.”
It is a charming little property situated next to the railway station and benefits from a long garden, although this was somewhat overgrown during our stay.
However, after spending a week there, several issues became apparent. The cottage would benefit from some general maintenance and attention to a number of tired-looking areas.
Wooden floors throughout were very noisy and noticeably dirty, with clumps of fluff and dirt on the floor, especially in the bedrooms.
The cottage served its purpose as a base for our stay, but anyone looking for peace and quiet should be aware that there is regular activity outside the front door, with cars arriving and departing throughout the day and evening, as well as frequent train noise from the adjacent station.
The garden was a welcome bonus, particularly for dog owners, but it would benefit from some maintenance as it felt somewhat neglected and overgrown.
The kitchen was reasonably equipped, and it was appreciated that the owner provided dishwasher tablets and washing pods. There is also a washing line in the garden, although no pegs were provided. We purchased a pack for £1 and left them behind for future guests. Other useful amenities included Wi-Fi, an airer, an ironing board and an iron. However, there was no hairdryer available.
For those planning coastal visits, be aware that the coast is at least an hour away by car, and potentially longer depending on roadworks and traffic.
On a positive note, the nearby nature reserve offers some enjoyable walks, and there are additional dog-walking routes around 10 minutes away. The local cemetery also provides some surprisingly interesting walking trails.
Overall, this is a quaint and characterful cottage, but it did not fully match our expectations based on the description. While it has its strengths, there are several maintenance issues that would benefit from attention to improve the experience for future guests.
